Video Cards and Imaging

Motherboards on computers include video cards that allow computers to be used with monitors or displays. Also called graphics cards, these devices are responsible for feeding output images to display devices, resulting in onscreen displays that computer users can view and interact with.

For many computers, graphics cards are integrated into the motherboard as chipsets. These graphics chips usually take memory from the computer's RAM, providing low performance and slower rendering. Fortunately, most motherboards can be fitted with dedicated graphics cards that have high-performance capabilities. Developments in video card technology have also allowed these expansion cards to offer advanced functions such as quicker rendering of 2D and 3D graphics and multi-monitor compatibility.
